Welcome to Veteran’s Day Weekend in Beautiful Santa Barbara!
The Select Staffing Santa Barbara Veteran's Day Marathon & Half is thrilled to honor all veterans on Saturday, November 8, 2014.
Participants are welcome to join veterans and other members of the community to enjoy the other annual Veteran Events produced by the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Museum & Library Foundation, including the 19th Military Ball, Parade and Concert, along with the many attractions in Santa Barbara - it’s stunning waterfront, the hiking & biking trails, the Queen of the Missions, and downtown State Street shopping and dining choices galore. This is worth a weekend stay!
There is a Wounded Warrior Award Category in each event. Any Veteran wounded in action may choose this category.
Now in our third year, collaborating with the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Museum and Library, we invite you to plan on enjoying all we have to offer.
- A Color Guard and fly over of vintage war birds in formation, along with a live rendition of the reveille and “Charge” by a bugler will kick off both the full and half-marathons.
- Flags are handed out to all runners at the top of the “Veteran’s Mile” where the course heads downhill and is lined with American flags where Veterans, active duty personnel and residents of the community come to cheer all runners on that last important mile.
- An authentic World War II Jeep – “Pierre” escorts Marathon runners driven by PCVM Director John Blankenship
- During the awards ceremony, the Color Guard will present the Wounded Warrior awards.
